On August 15-16, Dr. Ushita Patel and Dr. Luke Vetti had the privilege of participating as speakers and co-course directors at the annual Virginia Podiatric Medical Association Summer Scientific Conference. This event attracts hundreds of podiatrists, medical assistants, and radiologists from all over the state of Virginia. The VPMA hosts the program to foster connections between medical professionals and leading industry experts as they discuss the latest technological developments in foot and ankle care. The conference also offers participants the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge, providing valuable insights and networking opportunities.
Dr. Patel and Dr. Vetti led a hands-on bandaging workshop designed for medical assistants. The course covered the essentials of wound care bandaging, post-operative bandaging, three-layer compression, cast application, and Unna boot fitting. In addition, the doctors taught sessions on common podiatric skin conditions, basic biomechanics, and the history of footwear.
The conference’s Medical Assistant Track provides specialized training on treatment methods, innovative tools and instruments, office administration, and regulatory compliance—ensuring participants remain competitive and current within the podiatric field.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Patel was honored to give the presidential address on her initiatives. In her remarks, she highlighted VPMA’s membership and finances, the institution of new bylaws, and introduced the association’s new management company. Dr. Patel then welcomed Delegate Anne Ferrell Tata, who also addressed the membership.
