Founded in 1912, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) is the leading resource for foot and health information, representing the majority of licensed podiatrists in the country. The Virginia chapter, the Virginia Podiatric Medical Association (VPMA), shares its overall mission in advancing and advocating for the profession of podiatric medicine and surgery for the benefit of its members and the general public.
SynergyHealth Foot & Ankle has proudly been associated with the VPMA for many years. It is our mission to provide quality ankle and foot care in a patient-centered fashion, and being a part of the VPMA plays a significant role in our ongoing research, care and dedication.
We are beyond honored to announce that our very own Dr. Ushita Patel, DPM, who was previously VPMA's Division President and Executive Board, has been elected and officially taken office as President of the association, serving from 2024 to 2026.
“This is a great privilege and I'm very much looking forward to engaging with and increasing the VPMA's membership, as well as recruiting new students and talent,” said Dr. Patel. “As the president of the VPMA, I am committed to upholding the organization's commitments, values and overall mission while bringing new ideas and management styles to the table.”
During her term, Dr. Patel will focus on membership, recruitment, stabilizing finances and hosting the annual Virginia Beach Summer Scientific Conference. Dr. Patel will also work closely with Susan McConnel from VPMA's new association management firm, RAM Services, to maintain and uphold the organization's By-Laws.
As the elected Treasurer of Richmond Academy of Medicine's AccessNow charity, which provides free specialty medical care for those without health insurance so no patients go without proper care, Dr. Patel plans to utilize her background and expertise in financial organization to the VPMA.
Dr. Patel isn't the only one at SynergyHealth Foot & Ankle making waves within the VPMA. Dr. Luke Vetti, DPM, who has served as the VPMA's Richmond Division President, was elected as the organization's new Treasurer. He will now serve on the VPMA's Executive Board concurrently, and will be chairing the VPMA's new Public Relations Committee, as well as the VPMA PAC.
Dr. Sunny Patel, DPM, has taken on Dr. Vetti's previous role as the President of the Richmond Division within the VPMA, and will also serve as Chair of its By-Laws Committee.
